Living with a Therapy

Redefine your life

Congratulations on choosing a Medtronic pain therapy to help you live your life with less pain. No matter which therapy you have—neurostimulation or drug delivery—it has the potential to change your life. So, make plans to try activities you haven't been able to do because of your pain, or even try new things.

What to expect in the first weeks

The recovery time after getting the therapy is usually short, about 6-8 weeks, but you may experience some initial discomfort and limits on movements. The most important thing is to listen to your body and follow your doctor's instructions.

After a few weeks, it's a good idea to try some activities you enjoy, such as going for a walk, riding your bike, going to a movie, or watching a ball game. Then, set some goals for other activities you'd like to try or tasks you'd like to accomplish.

Living life every day

Gardening. Traveling. Walking the dog. With Medtronic Pain Therapies, you may be back to enjoying the things you love most. Talk to your doctor about what activities you can do and when you should be a little more careful. Call your doctor right away if you:

  • Experience additional or unusual pain
  • Notice changes in the affect your therapy is having on your pain
  • Think you need to increase the intensity of your therapy

Medtronic ID Card

When you receive a Medtronic pain therapy, you'll get a patient ID card that contains important information about your therapy and contact information for your doctor. Keep the card with you at all times.
